PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel women's lacrosse team is set to host Wagner on Wednesday at Vidas Field. Action is set for 3 p.m., and can be streamed on FloCollege.
Last Time Out
The Dragons opened the season with a dramatic 12–11 double-overtime win over UConn, as Bea Buckley buried a buzzer-beating free-position shot with one second left on the shot clock. It marked the second straight season the Dragons and Huskies needed two extra periods to decide the matchup, after UConn took last year's meeting.
Kate Quinn and Annie Madden lead the Dragons in scoring both tallied four times in the win. Quinn was three-for-three on free-position attempts, adding six draw controls and a caused turnover. Lucy Dailey made her collegiate debut in front of the cage for the Dragons. The redshirt freshman picked up five saves for her first career win.
What a Debut
In their collegiate debuts, both Charlotte Ross and Annie Madden both earned CAA weekly awards after their performances against the Huskies. Ross received Defensive Player of the Week honors, as Madden notched the Rookie of the Week award.
Madden became the first freshman to collect four goals in a season opener since the program joined the CAA in 2002. With the score tied at 2-2, the freshman netted the first three goals of her career as part of a second quarter hat trick. Ross collected five ground balls and five caused turnovers, helping the Dragons hold down the UConn offense late in the game.
About the Opponent
In the 12 prior match ups, the Seahawks have recorded just one victory over the Dragons. After Wagner's win in the first-ever meeting in 2002, Drexel has taken the last 11 meetings in the series.
Up Next
The Dragons will make the short walk to Franklin Field to battle No. 11/11 Penn on Saturday, Feb. 14. The opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
