RICHMOND, Va. — Charlotte Ross and Annie Madden of the Drexel women's lacrosse earned CAA weekly awards after their performance in the season opener against UConn. Ross was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Madden notched Rookie of the Week honors.
Ross made her collegiate debut for the Dragons in Saturday's double-overtime victory over the Huskies. The redshirt sophomore caused five turnovers and collected five ground balls, anchoring Drexel's defense and helping contain UConn late in the game.
Madden also made an immediate impact in her college debut, scoring four of Drexel's 12 goals. After a 2-2 start, the Arlington, Va., native notched a hat trick in just 2:21, giving Drexel a 5-2 lead. She added another goal in the third quarter, marking the most goals by a freshman in a season opener since the Dragons joined the conference in 2002.
