PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel women's lacrosse team is set to open the 2026 campaign against UConn on Friday. The women will play in game two of the men's and women's lacrosse doubleheader, with the women's game slated for 2:30 p.m. at Vidas Field.
About the Dragons
The Dragons finished last season with a 14-4 record, the most wins in program history. After starting the year 1-2, DU rattled off ten consecutive victories, marking the longest single-season winning streak in program history and finishing one shy of the overall program record set during the 2005-06 seasons. The Dragons also became just the third team in conference history to win ten straight games in a single season since the turn of the century.
Drexel capped off the season with a second consecutive appearance in the CAA Championship Game, and their fourth in five seasons. The Dragons were picked to finish second in the CAA and received votes in the Preseason KANE Women's Lacrosse Media Poll.
Award Season
Bea Buckley, Kate Quinn and Katie Maloney were all named to the Preseason All-CAA Team for the 2026 season. Drexel was the only school with three preseason selections. Additionally, Emma Nikolic received an honorable mention.
Buckley led the Dragons in scoring last season with 72 points, setting a new single-season program record with 44 assists. The attacker ranked third in the conference in assists per game (2.44) and fifth in points per game (4.0) during her sophomore campaign. Quinn, a 2025 CAA Second Team selection, totaled 27 goals for 28 points while ranking third on the team in draw controls (60), adding 30 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. Maloney paced the Dragons with 44 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers, anchoring a defense that finished 18th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 9.89 goals per game.
About the Opponent
Drexel dropped its only prior meeting with the Huskies in last season's opener, falling 10–9 in overtime. UConn scored two consecutive goals late to force extra time in a back-and-forth contest that featured seven ties throughout the game. Eve McGrogan sealed the win for the Huskies, scoring in the first minute of the second overtime to put the contest away.
Up Next
The Dragons return to Vidas on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to take on Wagner, with action set for 3 p.m.
