Dragons go 1-1 on Day One in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Drexel softball split its Friday doubleheader in Rock Hill, defeating Presbyterian 2–1 in the opener before falling to Winthrop 6–4 in the afternoon. The Dragons move to 4–3 on the season.
How It Happened – Game One
Both teams were held scoreless through the first inning as Courtney Kols and Kylie Rast each worked clean opening frames.
Presbyterian opened the scoring in the second. Morgan Farthing singled and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Baxleigh Arnette drove her in with an RBI single through the right side to give the Blue Hose a 1–0 lead.
Drexel broke through in the fifth. Annabelle Smink worked a one-out walk and Olivia Sciulli reached on a fielder's choice before Kylah Reading connected on a two-run home run to left center, putting the Dragons ahead 2–1.
Kols finished the complete game in the circle and kept Presbyterian off the board over the final five innings to secure the win.
How It Happened – Game Two
Drexel struck first in the opening inning. Kylah Reading singled and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Natalie Alldred drove her in with an RBI single to give the Dragons a 1–0 lead. Winthrop answered in the bottom half with a two-run home run to take a 2–1 advantage.
The Dragons tied the game in the second as Olivia Sciulli reached and stole second before Reading delivered an RBI single to even the score at 2–2.
Drexel regained the lead in the sixth. Sciulli tripled to start the inning and scored on a Reading RBI hit, and Jackie Masone later added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4–2.
Winthrop responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, using five hits in the inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double, to move ahead 6–4. Drexel threatened in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
By the Numbers
Courtney Kols moved to 4–0 on the season with a complete-game win in the opener.
Kylah Reading drove in two runs with a home run in Game One and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in Game Two.
Olivia Sciulli recorded a triple, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the second game.
Kalea Calugay and Macie Bergmann each had two hits in Game Two.
Drexel totaled 14 hits across the doubleheader.

Drexel remains in Rock Hill on Saturday, facing Winthrop at 3 p.m. before closing the day against Presbyterian at 5:30 p.m.
