Dragons Split on Final Day of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Drexel softball split its Saturday doubleheader at Terry Field, defeating Mount St. Mary's 7–2 in the opener before falling to Winthrop 16–6 in five innings in the nightcap. The Dragons move to 6–4 on the season.
How It Happened – Game One
Mount St. Mary's struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but Drexel answered in the second. Kylah Reading delivered an RBI single and Jackie Masone followed with an RBI walk to tie the game at 2–2.
The Dragons took the lead in the fourth when Masone singled home a run to make it 3–2. Drexel then broke the game open in the fifth, plating four runs in the inning. Reading highlighted the frame with a grand slam to center field to extend the advantage to 7–2.
Courtney Kols earned the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
How It Happened – Game Two
Drexel opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. Jackie Masone doubled and later scored on a Kalea Calugay RBI single. Macie Bergmann added an RBI single, and Calugay came home on a Kelsie Peters RBI lineout to make it 3–0.
Winthrop responded with six runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and followed with a 10-run second inning to extend the margin to 16–3.
The Dragons added three runs in the third. Natalie Alldred reached and scored ahead of a two-run home run by Calugay to center field, cutting the deficit to 16–6.
Courtney Kols provided 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, but Drexel was unable to mount a comeback as the game concluded after five innings.

Kylah Reading went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a grand slam, in Game One.
Courtney Kols threw a complete game in the opener and added 2.0 scoreless innings in relief in Game Two.
