Dragons Go 1-1 Against North Dakota

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel softball split a Tuesday doubleheader against North Dakota at the Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons opened the day with a 10–4 victory before falling 6–5 in the second game, which was called after five innings due to darkness.
How It Happened – Game One
Drexel's offense broke through in the fourth inning and continued to add on late to secure a 10–4 win in the opener.
North Dakota struck first in the second inning, but the Dragons answered in the bottom half when Macie Bergmann doubled to right field to bring home Devyn Demchak and tie the game at 1–1.
The Fighting Hawks regained the lead with two runs in the fourth, but Drexel responded immediately with a four-run frame. Annabelle Smink, Quinn Cunningham, and Olivia Sciulli loaded the bases before Kylah Reading delivered the key swing of the inning, driving a double to left center that cleared the bases and gave Drexel a 4–3 advantage.
Drexel extended the lead in the fifth. Demchak singled to start the inning before Smink walked and Cunningham added a single to load the bases again. After a pair of wild pitches brought in runs, Kalea Calugay delivered a two-run single to right field that pushed the Dragons ahead 9–4.
The Dragons added another run in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Cunningham led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and three runs scored. Smink and Sciulli each added two hits, while Reading and Calugay drove in three runs apiece.
Courtney Kols earned the win, tossing a complete game with four strikeouts.
How It Happened – Game Two
North Dakota took the second game 6–5 in a contest that was halted after five innings due to darkness.
Drexel jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Kylah Reading and Kalea Calugay both reached base before Natalie Alldred drove in the first run with an RBI single. Kelsie Peters added a sacrifice groundout to give the Dragons a 2–0 advantage.
North Dakota responded with three runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth to take a 6–2 lead.
The Dragons rallied in the fourth. Annabelle Smink reached on an error before Quinn Cunningham doubled down the left field line to score Drexel's first run of the inning. Olivia Sciulli followed with a single, and Reading added an RBI hit to cut the deficit to 6–4.
Alldred pulled Drexel within one in the fifth with a solo home run to center field, but the Dragons were unable to complete the comeback before the game was called.
By the Numbers
Quinn Cunningham went 4-for-7 across the doubleheader with a double and four runs scored.
Kylah Reading drove in four runs on the day, highlighted by a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning of Game One.
Kalea Calugay finished with three RBI in the opener, including a two-run single during Drexel's five-run fifth inning.
Natalie Alldred recorded two hits in Game Two, including a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Courtney Kols earned the win in Game One, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts.
Drexel totaled 17 hits and scored 15 runs across the two games.
