122nd EIWA Tournament hosted by American
Date & Time: Friday and Saturday, March 6-7
Location: Bender Arena — Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Dragons will compete at the 122nd EIWA Championships in Washington, D.C. American will host the tournament for the first time in their program's history Action from Bender Arena. Action will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. and conclude with the championship rounds on Saturday.
The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) was founded in 1905 and is the oldest and largest wrestling conference in the nation. Ten Dragons will look to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. Last season, Drexel had three wrestlers earn their way to the NCAAs, as DU was the only program at the EIWAs to have all ten wrestlers place on the podium. Drexel also finished second overall at the tournament a season ago, the best finish in program history.
Drexel finished with a 13-7 record this season, capturing the EIWA Independence Division Championship for the second consecutive season. The Dragons finished 5-2 in conference action while facing tough competition outside the conference, including a 19-16 victory over No. 25 Purdue.
Eight of the ten Dragons competing this year bring prior experience at the EIWA Tournament. Kyle Waterman and Luke Nichter will look to take the next step after both finished as runners-up last season. Jordan Soriano, Jasiah Queen and Nichter will attempt to qualify for their second NCAA Championships.
Since Drexel joined the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association for the 2013–14 season, the Dragons have won three conference championships. Five-time NCAA qualifier Mickey O'Malley was the most recent champion, taking the top spot in the 174-pound division in 2022.
