Sean Joyce was promoted to assistant athletics director for external relations in August of 2012. He has been a fixture at Drexel since joining the staff in 1999 as the coordinator of operations.
Joyce, a member of the department’s management team, is responsible for helping develop marketing plans for all 18 varsity programs, with an emphasis on ticketed sports. He oversees the video department (Dragons TV) and the spirit groups. He was able to negotiate the initial deal with NBC Sports Philadelphia to have Dragons TV live streams placed on linear television.
Joyce also took a leadership role in the branding the DAC, including the Janet E. and Barry C. Burkholder Athletics Hall of Fame, Mary & John Semanik Lobby, Robert & Marlene Buckley Plaza, the men’s and women’s basketball suites and locker rooms and the Vidas Athletic Complex.
The Drexel graduate is part of the team that oversees all special events and banquets, including helping manage the annual golf outings, which have raised money for capital improvements and scholarships for the department.
Joyce has been a part of numerous committees in his time at Drexel, including the EIWA Executive Committee, NCAA Lacrosse National Championship Marketing, CAA Marketing, Drexel Homecoming, Dragon Concert Series, Operation Pride, and the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game Committees. He is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators.
He has helped create two student organizations at Drexel, the club baseball team and the DAC Pack. The DAC Pack has become of the largest and most recognized student organizations on campus. Joyce has served many roles in the department during his more than 25 years in the DAC. He served as the coordinator of operations, corporate sales manager, director of sports marketing before being promoted to his current role.
Joyce previously interned for the University of Pennsylvania Athletics Department. He graduated from Drexel in 1998 as was a member of the baseball team. Joyce also received his master's degree in sport management from Drexel in 2010. He lives in Collingswood, New Jersey with his wife, Danel, and his two sons, Ryan and Aaron.
