Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Terrapin Cup Invitational

College Park, Md. - The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in the three-day Terrapin Cup Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland. The women's squad finished eighth of the nine women's teams at the event while the men placed fifth of seven. Diver Kate Hynes won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events while Katie McCann posted impressive finishes in the pool. On the men's side, Jake Roberson took second in the 3-meter dive and placed third in the 1-meter dive while Mert Karsiyakalilar, Adrian Sabovici, Gokhan Hulagu and Craig Podgurski continued their strong seasons with solid performances.
Kate Hynes was once again impressive as the junior swept the diving events at the Invitational. Hynes posted a score of 334.45 in the 3-meter dive final, nearly 50 points higher than second place Liza Marianni from the University of Connecticut. Hynes posted a score of 291.55 in the 1-meter final more than 55 points higher than any other diver. Katie McCann placed fourth in the 1650-yard free with a time of 17:03.57 in the finals. She earned sixth in the 500 free, finishing with a 5:00.72 in the finals, and the 200 free with a time of 1:52.96.
Roberson took second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 262.20 and third in the 1-meter, scoring a 257.50. Karsiyakalilar took third place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.73. Sabovici took fourth place in the 1650 free posting a 16:31.99. Hulagu also earned a fourth-place finish when he touched the wall in 1:52.76 in teh 200 back. Podgurski took fifth in the 100 free with a 46.51, and the 500 free finishing at 4:35.44. The freshman opened the most eyes after his second place in the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:40.08.
The Dragons return to action at the Hounds Invitational hosted by Loyola on Nov. 30.
