Philadelphia, Pa. – Katrina Gaudier and Amanda Shattuck combined to close out Drexel's (17-18, 6-11 CAA) home season with a 3-0 shutout of Lafayette (20-23). Christina Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Kristen Beaver and Carla Waldron also had two-hit games for the Dragons.
Drexel opened scoring in the second inning on a hard-hit double to right center field by Rodriguez. Kristen Beaver snuck a grounder through the right side to make it a 1-0 game as Rodriguez scored. Gaudier followed with a seeing-eye single up the middle but left fielder Michelle Ellis made a sliding grab of a diving liner hit by Lisa Williams to end the inning with two Dragons on the bases.
The remainder of Drexel's runs came in the third inning. With two outs, Brianne Brown pounded a double to right center and Dacey followed it up with a single to short right field and advanced to second on the throw to third. Rodriguez drilled a single through the shortstop hole to bring in both runners and make it a 3-0 game.
Gaudier earned the 10th win of her rookie campaign, allowing just four hits and surrendering one walk in five innings and striking out one. Shattuck, who led the team in saves last season, closed out her first game of 2007 by pitching two hitless innings in relief.
Drexel wrapped up its 2007 home season with a 9-6 record on the friendly confines of Drexel Field. The Dragons hit the road for their final regular-season conference games of the season, taking on George Mason in a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 5 at 12:00 p.m.
