Dragons Hold On For 7-6 Win Over Jacksonville State

Statesboro, Ga. - Drexel rebounded from a loss to Campbell Saturday morning with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Jacksonville State. The Dragons (3-1) mounted an early 7-2 lead and clung to the advantage for the win despite a late rally by the Gamecocks.
Seniors Molly Dacey and Amanda Hastings powered their team to victory, Dacey went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Hastings belted her first homer of the season, the second of her career, and scored two of the team's eight runs.
Sophomore Carla Waldron handled the bat well batting in the nine hole for the Dragons. The second baseman went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and also laid down a key sacrifice. Her double-play partner, shortstop Kristen Beaver, also had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Breanna Gomez made her first start since going down with an injury late last season. She picked up her first win of the season after working four and two-thirds innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and fanning two without surrendering a walk. Ellen Boundy relieved Gomez in the fifth inning and closed out the tight game for the Dragons after two and a third innings of work.
Drexel returns to the field for its final day of play at the Georgia Southern Tournament. The Dragons face Radford at 9:00 a.m. and close out the day against the host at 11:00 p.m.
