Philadelphia - The Hofstra Pride (5-5, 3-1) will be in town tonight for a 4:00 p.m. men's soccer match on the turf at Vidas Field. The Dragons (5-5, 1-2 CAA) will look for their second straight conference win at home this season while trying to stop a two-game losing skid overall. Admission and parking are free at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton, Ave.
Teams: Drexel (5-5-0, 1-2-0) vs. Hofstra (5-5-0, 3-1-0)
Venue: Vidas Field, Philadelphia, Pa.
All-Time Series: Drexel leads 27-11-8
Last Meeting: Drexel and Hofstra played to a 2-2 draw during their last contest together. The Pride struck early in the 14th minute when Johannes Grahn connected on a crossed header from Brett Carrington that found its way passed Drexel goalie Cory Robertson. Shortly after the second half opened, Max Crockett made a 40-yard dash down the field holding his defender off all the way into the goal box where he lifted a shot past goalie Greg Cumpstone to tie the match for Drexel at 1-1. Minutes later, Drexel defender Brandon Fischer collected a poor clear attempt from the Pride and blasted it past Cumpstone from 15 yards out. Both Drexel tallies were career firsts for Crockett and Fischer. However, with just 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Grahn found the equalizer for Hofstra, assisted by Jamal Neptune. The match would remain tied through two over time periods. Drexel's Cory Robertson had five saves while Cumpstone had six for Hofstra.
Entering the Match: Fabio Assumpcao scored Drexel's only goal in the 41st minute as the Dragons fell to Georgia State on the road, 3-1. Assumpcao's goal, his seventh on the season, sent the match into halftime at a 1-1 tie. But the Panthers rallied in the second, beating Drexel in shots 6-4 while converting two of them to goals. Drexel goalie Alex Reber and Panthers' Vincent Foermer had one save each in the match.
Players to Watch: Senior Fabio Assumpcao's goal against Georgia State gave him seven on the season, which matched his total for career goals entering the year. He is currently ranked first in the CAA in goals and goals per game. He is also the leader in points per game in CAA contests. Three of Assumpcao's seven goals this season have come from free kick opportunities.
Hofstra is led by junior forward Johannes Grahn who has five goals on the season, two of which were picked up in the Pride's 6-0 win over Delaware Saturday. Also, sophomore goalie Greg Cumpstone is third in the CAA for save percentage at .800. Cumpstone has three shutouts on the season, most recently against Delaware on Saturday.
Up Next: The Dragons remain at home for their next match. They take on the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth at 7:00 p.m. at Vidas Field, on 43rd and Powelton.
