Philadelphia - Drexel men's soccer will welcome back its alumni this Saturday as part of Alumni Day festivities that include a 6:00 p.m. match against Towson. The Dragons have been on a 10-day haitus as the result of a rained out match against UNC Wilmington last weekend. Towson (3-4, 0-1 CAA) is riding a three-match losing streak heading into the weekend as Drexel's first conference opponent of the season. Alumni Day proceedings, including the annual alumni game, begin at 2:00 at Vidas Field.
Teams: Drexel (4-3-0) vs. Towson (3-4-0)
Venue: Vidas Field, Philadelphia, Pa.
All-Time Series: Drexel leads 17-13-3
Last Meeting: In their previous match, Drexel traveled to Towson where the Dragons defeated the Tigers when Anthony Bafile scored the lone goal of the match in the 71st minute. Bafile, traveling with the ball through the midfield, ripped a shot from 30 yards out that caught Tigers' keeper John Steele off guard. With overall shots tied at 11 a side, Steele was forced to make five saves while Dragons' goalie Cory Robertson was only tested three times.
Entering the Match: Drexel was scheduled to open CAA conference play at UNC Wilmington Sept. 26th, but inclement weather cancelled the match. The date and time for the make up contest is yet to be determined. The most recent contest for Drexel was against Iona at home where the Dragons lost in overtime 2-1. Mike Crosse scored the goal for Drexel while freshman goalie Tres Heffron made five saves in his first start. Iona tallied its goals from Fernando Lissera and Giovanni Destasio, both set up by free kick opportunities.
Players to Watch: Drexel Senior Mike Crosse sits atop the leader board with three goals this season, 12 during his career. Crosse continues to be a force up front for the Dragons as he controls the offensive flow of play in the attacking third. Fabio Assumpcao shares the leader board with Crosse in goals and also carries two assists.
Towson Junior defender Scott Horta anchors the Tigers' back line as co-captain for the second straight year. At 6-foot-2 he is a dominant force in the air, able to challenge and win any 50/50 ball served his way. Horta was a Third Team All-CAA selection last season as a sophomore.
Up Next: Drexel takes the field again on Wednesday Oct. 7 when the Dragons travel to Newark, Del. to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens at 7:00 p.m.
