William & Mary scored a goal midway through the first half and held on to defeat Drexel, 1-0, in a Colonial Athletic Association match in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe (9-3, 3-1) stayed within a game of the top spot in the CAA, while the Dragons fell to 2-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
The Tribe's only goal came in the game's 27th minute. Cortlyn Bristol headed home a feed from Kaitlin O'Connor off a free kick from about 40 yards away. It was Bristol's second of the season for the Tribe. William & Mary had five corners and 13 shots in the first 45 minutes, but the Dragons were able to stay within a goal.
Drexel's Nicole Sinclair had a big second half as the Dragons looked to even the score. The sophomore made seven of her nine saves in the final half as she tied her career-high with those nine stops. Drexel's offense could not get going against the Tribes' strong defense. The Dragons could muster only a pair of shots in each half and were outshot in the game, 26-4.
The Dragons return home for two conference matches next weekend. Drexel will host VCU on Friday and play James Madison on Sunday afternoon.
