Men's Soccer Renews Rivalry at Delaware Tonight

Philadelphia - Drexel men's soccer travels to Newark, Del. today in hopes of continuing the offensive surge that lifted the Dragons to a 6-5 double-overtime win against Towson last Saturday. Andrew Goldberg and Fabio Assumpcao, who each tallied two goals and an assist in the win, will lead their squad into action at 7:00 p.m. tonight agaisnt the Delaware Blue Hens. Last Meeting: Drexel met the Blue Hens of Delaware last season at Vidas Field where both teams fought tactically for 110 minutes to a 3-3 tie. Delaware was forced to battle from behind on three separate occaisions for the draw. Anthony Bafile beat two defenders to open up scoring for the Dragons with a chip over Blue Hens' keeper Conrad Rusnak. E.J. Alverado of the Blue Hens was able to tie the game when he finished a bouncing ball in the box with less than three minutes remaining in the half. Two minutes into the second, Drexel's Leland Raum found himself at the top of the goal box with space and was able to slot the ball just to the left of Rusnak for a goal. Mike Crosse was able to give Drexel its third goal of the match with a good physical effort and a touch on the ball to get it in the net. Andrew Englehart kept Delaware in the match by scoring the last two equalizers. Drexel's keeper Cory Robertson played 110 minutes recording nine saves for the Dragons.
Entering the Match: The crowd remained on the edge of its seats as Drexel battled the Towson Tigers to an action-packed 6-5 double-overtime victory in Saturday's conference opener. Andrew Goldberg and Fabio Assumpcao both scored twice and handed out an assist each to help Drexel come back from a two-goal deficit. Rookie midfielder Nathan Page put in the golden goal, his first career tally, with four minutes left in the second overtime period. Goldberg scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and assisted on Page's game-winner.
Players to Watch: Sophomore Andrew Goldberg was recently named the Soccer Six Player of the Week for his two-goal, one-assist performance on Saturday night against the Towson Tigers. Goldberg sits second on the team in scoring with three goals and on assist. He is ranked second only to Fabio Assumpcao with five goals and three assists. Watch for Goldberg and Assumpcao continue to lead the strike for Drexel.
Delaware's senior midfielder Darren Christie leads the team in goals with four, two of which were game winners for the Blue Hens. Most recently Christie notched the lone goal that helped to bring down JMU on Saturday at home. Also, Delaware freshman goalie Brandon Paul was named CAA Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for his back to back shutouts against La Salle and JMU last week. Paul will be looking to continue his streak in this match.
