Dover, Del. - Katrina Gaudier threw a complete-game no-hitter and Drexel's offense supplied 15 runs in the championship game of the Capital City Classic hosted by Delaware State. The junior hurler walked four but did not surrender a hit in the run-rule shortened affair that avenged Drexel's loss to St. Francis on Saturday and gave the Dragons the tournament title. Kristen Beaver went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Ashley Botelho hit her second home run of the weekend and drove in three runs. Christina Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while breaking Drexel's consecutive hit streak by getting a knock in her 14th straight game. Rookie Devon Metcalf went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Lisa Williams also drove in a pair of runs, scored two and stole a base.
The Dragons put seven runs on the board in the first inning, six in the second and tacked on two more in the fifth inning before the eight-run mercy role could be invoked atter five innings of play. Gaudier did not allow a hit or a run in five innings. She walked four and struck out one in the no-hit victory.
Botelho broke a record set by Kristy Heyser by hitting safely in 14 straight games. Heyser's 13-game mark, set in 1999 stood for a decade before being broached by Botelho. Drexel opens conference play next weekend when the Georgia State Panthers come to Philadelphia for a three-game set at Drexel field on March 21 and 22.
