Williamsburg, Va. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-12 decision at William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. The loss dropped the Dragons to 7-7 on the season and 0-5 in conference action. Junior Katie Lawson led the Dragons with six goals but the defense was unable to stop the Tribe who scored 11 second-half goals.
Drexel goalie Lauren LaBella kept the Dragons in the game in the first half as she made 13 first-half saves and allowed just seven goals. Drexel was down 6-3 when Lawson and Becca Drylie-Perkins strung a pair of free-position goals together to bring the Dragons to within a goal late in the first period. The Tribe picked up a goal with just 32 seconds remaining in the half to take a two-goal lead into the break.
The home team continued the momentum out of halftime as the Tribe reeled off the first seven goals of the second half to put the game out of reach. Lawson scored five goals after the run but the damage was done. Ashley Holofcener tallied five goals while Maggie Anderson contributed four scores for William & Mary. The Tribe outshot Drexel 43-27 for the game and scored on 11 of their 17 second-half shots. LaBella finished with 15 saves and 14 goals allowed while Whitney Johnson came on to relieve the senior and made one save while allowing three goals.
Drexel will return to action on Sunday, April 19 with a road conference game against Old Dominion.
