Philadelphia - After stumbling to a 2-1 loss at Delaware on Wednesday, the Dragons (6-5-1, 2-3) are looking to steady themselves in a home match against Georgia State (5-4-3, 2-3-1) on Saturday afternoon. CAA Co-Player of the Week Nate Baker will try to extend his goal-scoring streak to four straight when the Dragons kick it off with the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Fans who can't make it out to 43rd and Powelton Ave. can also follow the match via live stats by clicking here.
In Wednesday's match the Dragons found themselves trailing 2-0 early in the second half, despite producing a number of scoring opportunites through the first 45 minutes. Baker was able to break through in the 77th minute when he finished a corner kick from Manuel Cazares that resulted in a scramble at the far post. The goal was Baker's third on the season and in as many games, but it was not enough to rally the Dragons in Newark.
Georgia State is coming off a scoreless draw with UNC Wilmington on Wednesday. The Panthers were able to stymie the No. 27 Seahawks, who are currently tied for first in the CAA, thanks to an outstanding performance by keeper Vincent Foermer. The sophomore netminder made 10 saves to earn the shutout, his second straight and third on the season for Georgia State.
Drexel leads the all-time series with Georgia State 3-2, but the Panther's took last year's meeting with the Dragons 3-1. The Panthers broke a 1-1 stalemate in the second half despite being outshot by the Dragons 5-2 in the first period and 9-8 in the match.
The Dragons will attempt to regain the form that has them at 4-1 when playing on their home turf this season. Drexel's two-win performance last week earned them votes in the NSCAA South Atlantic regional ranking and the team is rate No. 41 in the first Ratings Percentage Index of the year, one of six CAA teams in the RPI top 50.
Parking and admission are free for all fans at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Ave. in Philadelphia.
