Dragons Look to Start New Winning Streak Against Long Island University

Philadelphia - After having a season-opening four-game winning streak snapped by No. 3 Penn, Drexel women's lacrosse looks to return to its winning ways against Long Island University on Wednesday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. The game will be the Dragons' fifth straight at the friendly confines of Vidas Field and will be the last at their home field until April 9. The Blackbirds have not played since losing their season-opener to St. Mary's on Feb. 21.
Katie Lawson has been a force offensively for the Dragons. The senior leads the Colonial Athletic Association with 18 goals and 22 points. Joining her on attack is sophomore Charlotte Wood. The 2009 CAA All-Rookie pick is averaging over two goals per game through the Dragons first five games of the season. First-year starter Whitney Johnson has been outstanding in the net as she made 11 saves in an 8-2 victory over Saint Joseph's last week. She currently sports a .557 save percentage and has a goals against average under nine.
Long Island University dropped its season-opener, 15-13, at home . Junior Annie Kalata scored five goals for the Blackbirds, but they were unable to overcome a 10-6 halftime deficit. Saint Mary's outshot the Blackbirds, 42-32, and forced 26 LIU turnovers. Sophomore Jacqueline Simonian made 17 saves in net for Long Island.
