Hillary Allen took the loss for the Dragons, dropping her record to 7-7 on the season. She gave up four runs on 10 hits and four walks and struck out three Explorers.
Massaro also went 2-for-3 at the plate for La Salle with a run scored. Mary Pat Conville went 3-for-4 at the plate and also had an RBI for La Salle.
Erica Vile staked the Explorers to an early 2-0 lead with a bloop single over third base with the bases loaded.

Parrish laid down a bunt single up the middle and reached first, pitcher Gina Massaro booted the grounder as she ran in to glove it, allowing Parrish to advance to second base. Botelho followed with an RBI double to right center.
Elizabeth Reed led off the fifth inning by stroking a double to the gap in right center and Gina Massaro hit a grounder past a diving Hanna Parrish at shortstop that went for a double into short left field. Mary Pat Conville drilled double to straight away center to give La Salle a 3-1 lead. Allen fanned Angelina Bisbiglia and got Erica Vile to ground out to first base to escape any further damage.
La Salle tacked on another run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Reed that scored pinch-runner Megan Codagnone from third base.
Allen pitched her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh by getting Tristan Musho to ground out to third base, giving her team a chance for a comeback in the bottom of the last inning.
In Drexel's last effort at a comeback, Devon Metcalf reached after being hit by a pitch, but with two outs Hillary Allen struck out swinging to end the game.
Game Two
Drexel saved a split with its Philadelphia rival by winning the nightcap 3-1. Katrina Gaudier tossed a complete-game and did not allow an earned run or a walk in seven innings. Rookie Caitlyn Gravenor drove in her first career RBI and reached base in all three at bats while helping the Dragons grind out three runs.
Paige Collings had two of Drexel's five hits in the game and Hanna Parrish went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Drexel manufactured a two-out run to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Laura Stagliano reached on a fielder's choice grounder and stole second. Rookie Caitlyn Gravenor stepped to the plate and dropped a single into short centerfield to bring home Stagliano with her first career RBI.
La Salle capitalized on a Hanna Parrish fielding error at shortstop to even the score in the fourth inning. Angelina Bisbiglia drove in Mary Pat Conville, who reached on the error, with a double to centerfield. Bisbiglia took third on a fly ball by Erica Vile. But the Dragons got out of the inning on an excellent play by leftfielder Amanda Bachmann. The rookie tracked a foul fly ball off the bat of Shannon Skomorucha and made the catch about 15 yards beyond third base. Without hesitation she fired the ball home as Bisbiglia tagged on third and tried to score on the fly out. The double play got Drexel out of the inning with the score tied at 1-1.
The Dragons stole a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on some aggressive base running and a La Salle miscue. With pinch runner Caprice DeMirjian on third base and one out, Laura Stagliano popped up a bunt that was caught in foul territory by catcher Shannon Skomorucha. She quickly fired the ball to third base in hopes of catching DeMirjian off the bag, but the throw went wide of the third baseman Mary Pat Conville. DeMirjian recovered after sliding into the bag, got to her feet and sprinted home to give Drexel the lead as Conville chased after the stray ball.
Parrish helped give Drexel an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when she singled, took second on a bunt by Kelly Downes and beat the throw to third on a fly out by Paige Collings to center field. A ground ball off the bat of Botelho found its way under the glove of Ali Shepherd at shortstop and Parrish was able to score from third, giving Drexel 3-1 lead.
Drexel averted dodged trouble in the top of the seventh when Erica Vile led off with a double to left. Pinch runner Megan Codagnone took her place at second and appeared to have advanced to third on a warning-track fly ball off the bat of Skomorucha that was tracked down by Bachmann. The Dragons appealed Codagnone's tag from second and the appeal was upheld as the umpire signaled that she was out after leaving early. The double play loomed large when the next batter singled through the left side of the infield. Starter Katrina Gaudier got the next batter, Laura Gallagher to ground out to end the game and give Drexel a doubleheader split.
Gaudier, who benefitted from several excellent defensive plays behind her, including a diving catch by Stagliano in centerfield, evened her record at 4-4 on the season. She scattered six hits and did not allow an earned run or issue a walk while fanning three in her complete-game victory.
DJ Guinn took the loss for La Salle. She dropped to 4-4 on the season after allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks in four innings of work.
The Dragons return to conference play this weekend when they host George Mason in a 11:00 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 17.
