Drexel Falls to No. 10 James Madison in CAA Road Opener, 19-7

Harrisonburg, Va. - Drexel women's lacrosse dropped a 19-7 decision to 10th-ranked James Madison in the Dragons' first Colonial Athletic Association road game of the season. Becca Drylie-Perkins led the Dragons with three goals while the Dukes' Ashley Kimener and Mary Kate Lomady each contributed four goals. The loss dropped Drexel to 9-4 overall and 1-2 in the CAA while the Dukes improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in the CAA.
James Madison got on the scoreboard first as Kim Griffin scored after a Drexel turnover just 30 seconds into the game. Though the Dukes earned the ensuing draw control, Katie Blazer caused a turnover that eventually led to a goal by Alyse Maiden that knotted the score. Ariel Lane converted a free-position shot before Caitlin McHugh taked on another goal that gave the hosts a 3-1 edge. Drexel's Nicole Musto got one goal back with a score at 20:21 but McHugh picked up her second goal of the game on an assist from Annie Brophy. Susan Lines gave the Dukes a three-goal lead but Katie Lawson notched her first score of the game after a Rachael Behrndt save. With 13:24 remaining Mary Kate Lomady moved the Dukes' lead back to three goals. Lomady added a free-position goal with 9:52 left in the first period to put the score at 7-3. Another free-position goal, this one from Ashley Kimener, caused Head Coach Anna Marie Vesco to call timeout. Just before the end of the half, Becca Drylie-Perkins scored with just 45 seconds remaining send the Dragons to the break trailing, 8-4.
The Dukes picked up where they left off in the first as Lomady notched her second of the game just 17 seconds into the period and added another at 26:23. Drylie-Perkins got one back but it was Kim Griffin who connected on yet another free-position shot for the Dukes to give the home squad an 11-5 lead. Ashley Kimener moved the lead to seven goals with a score at 20:41. Musto moved Drexel closer with a free-position score less than a minute later. Griffin moved the margin back to seven goals with a score before Casey Ancarrow added another goal for the home squad. McHugh scored again this time on an Ancarrow pass but Drylie-Perkins halted the three-goal run with an unassisted goal. Kimener tacked on a free-position goal to move the lead back to nine goals before added another 11 seconds later that stretched the lead to double digits. Ancarrow and Rebecca McLouth capped the game's scoring with a goal each.
The Dragons will look to even their conference mark on Sunday as they travel to Fairfax, Va. to take on George Mason at 1:00 p.m.
