PHILADELPHIA - Since opening conference play with a loss to William & Mary at Vidas Field last month, the Drexel men's soccer team has found home to be an agreeable venue, as they have won three in a row, including two in the CAA to improve to 2-3-1. On Wednesday, Drexel will be back at home as they host Hofstra at 7:00 p.m. in a pivotal game that could put the Dragons right back in position to grab one of the league's six postseeason tournament berths.
Drexel is coming off a 4-2 loss at Georgia State on Sunday that was closer than the score indicates. The Dragons held a 2-1 lead in the second half, in fact, and looked to be heading to overtime before two Panther goals in the 85th minute iced the game away for the hosts. The Dragons have seven points in league play, two behind Delaware and VCU, who are tied for sixth place. With a win on Wednesday, Drexel could leapfrog those teams, depending on their results.
Hofstra, meanwhile, will be attempting to play its way back into the CAA playoff picture as well. Coming into Wednesday 2-4 in league action, the Pride has lost three in a row and are beset by injuries with three starters forced to the sidelines. Hofstra has league victories over Towson and UNCW.
Last season, the Pride prevailed with a 1-0 overtime victory over the Dragons in Hempstead. Drexel has dominated the series, however, going 27-13-8 in its all-time series with Hofstra.
Kickoff from Vidas Field is set for 7:00 p.m.
