Philadelphia – The Drexel women's field hockey team hits the road for the last time in regular season play. The Dragons will take on No. 3 Maryland on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. on the Terrapins' Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Drexel is 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference after falling to Delaware, 3-0, on Friday night.
Maryland leads the all-time series 6-0. Last year, the Terrapins defeated Drexel, 4-2, in its season opener at Buckley Field. Christina Mastropaolo scored with just over four minutes remaining in the contest to close the gap to one, 3-2, but the Terrapins were able to hold off the Dragons and claim the win. Maryland outshot Drexel, 16-9, and held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners. Both teams registered four saves.
No. 3 Maryland is 13-3 overall, including four victories over nationally ranked opponents. No. 2 North Carolina beat the Terrapins, 2-1, last Saturday. Sophomore Jill Witmer leads the team with 15 goals, while teammate Jemma Buckley posted the most points with 33. Junior defender Harriet Tibble registered 11 assists. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Melissa Vassalotti has 31 saves on the season.
