Dragons Play Their Final Non-Conference Tournament at UMBC This Weekend

Baltimore, Md. - Coming off a rainy weekend in Atlanta, the Dragons (3-7) will compete in the last of four early season tournaments this weekend at the University of Mayland - Baltimore County. Drexel will face Coppin State, Seton Hall, Niagara and the host Retrievers during the three-day competition.
Paige Collings and Hillary Allen are swinging hot bats for Drexel thus far this season. Collings is raking at a .419 clip with two homers and a team-leading eight RBIs. Allen is batting .333 with a homer and seven RBIs, in addition to taking the ball to start five of Drexel's 10 games. She has a 2-2 record and a 2.73 ERA in 33 innings of work this year.
The Scouting Report:
UMBC (4-6)
The host of the tournament is a dangerous offensive team, the Retrievers are hitting nearly .300 as a team on the season. UMBC is 2-1 at home this season and comes into the weekend off a pair of wins, including a 13-6 six-inning victory over Delaware.
Big Bats: Lauren Brummell is off to a hot start, hitting .400 through 10 games this season. Jessica Warner is UMBC's power bat in the middle of the lineup, she's batting just under .300 with two homers and 10 RBIs.
Ace of the Staff: Stephanie Weigman has been in the circle for all four of UMBC's victories this season. While she has an inflated 4.29 ERA, she has been the beneficiary of the Retrievers' potent offense.
Coppin St. (3-1)
The Eagles travel to play at their Baltimore neighbor this weekend. Coppin State is coming of a 24-3 loss to Central Connecticut State. Two of Coppin's three wins are against Norfolk State.
Big Bats: Heather Josker is 7-for-11 at the plate this season, hitting at a .636 clip to open the spring. Paige Arnold has a homer and has driven in five of the Eagles' 16 runs this season.
Ace of the Staff: Arnold has also been the Eagles' most effective pitcher in the early season. While she does not have a win yet, she has started twice and has allowed just nine hits in 17 innings while striking out 23. She has a meager 0.41 ERA and opponents are hitting just .158 against her.
Seton Hall (5-11)
The Pirates come into the weekend on a six-game losing streak after going 1-4 at the Miken Classic at Boca Raton, Fla. and losing a doubleheader at Towson. The Pirates are 0-6 on the road this season and 5-5 at neutral sites.
Big Bats: Nalin Bennett is the Pirats' table-setter, hitting .333 with four stolen bases on the season. Kristen Kaelin has driven in five runs and his hitting .324 with the team's lone home run on the year.
Ace of the Staff: Jen Metzger has been the one consistent factor in the Pirates bullpen this year. She is 3-1 on the season with a 1.25 ERA in four starts. She's holding opponents to a .238 batting average.
Niagara (1-2)
The Purple Eagles opened the season last weekend and had half of their games washed out in Atlanta. Niagara's lone win was 3-2 over Winthrop in eight innings.
Big Bat: Jen Hare went 4-8 at the plate last weekend with a double, a homer and a run scored in Atlanta. Teresa Healy has scored three of the Pirates' seven runs on the season.
Ace of the Staff: Julie DeMatteo has started two of Niagara's three games but is still looking for her first win of the season. She's allowed seven runs in eight and a third innings and fanned six batters.
