Box Score
Philadelphia – The Pride (17-8, 3-0) hung six runs on the scoreboard in the third and fifth innings to close out Sunday's series finale with a 12-0 win over the Dragons (7-13, 0-3). Hillary Allen took the loss for Drexel and Olivia Galati got the complete-game victory for Hofstra in five innings.
Laura Valentino and D.J. Slugh homered for Hofstra. Galati allowed three hits and struck out seven batters in the complete-game shutout.
Laura Stagliano, Paige Collings and Amanda Bachmann all had hits for Drexel.
Laura Stagliano gave the Dragons a scoring opportunity to start the game in the first inning when she bounced a single up the middle and stole second. Jenn Reading advanced her to third with a groundout, bringing Collings to the plate. After fouling off a pair of 3-2 pitches Collings drew a walk with two outs. But Hillary Allen grounded out to end the inning.
Hofstra broke the game open with six runs in the top of the third inning. The Pride capitalized on a well-placed bases-loaded grounder to the left side of the infield. Shortstop Devon Metcalf appeared to have the ball lined up for a play in the hole at short, but third basemand Caprice DeMirjian dove to scoop it up instead and it tipped off her glove allowing two runs to score. A third came in when Amanda Bachmann's throw to third scooted away from DeMirjian. Two batters later Lara Valentino blasted a three-run homer to left field to give the Pride a 6-0 lead.
The shot sent starter Hillary Allen to the bench in favor of Shyann Beach, who recorded the final out of the inning without allowing another run.
Reliever Shyann Beach was touched up for five runs in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a bases-loaded walk, and a two-run double by Dreslinski. Shelby Taylor relieved her and surrendered a three-run home run to D.J. Slugh, giving Hofstra a 12-0 lead and the margin necessary to invoke the eight-run rule.
