Philadelphia - The Drexel women's lacrosse team dominated play in a 14-4 win over Saint Mary's College. Drexel (6-2) outshot the Gaels (2-6) 33-13 and had seven players score at least one goal. The Dragons are now 4-1 at Vidas Field.
Sophomore Alyse Maiden led the Dragons with four goals and recorded a new career high. Maiden now has 20 goals on the season. Freshman Kelly Palace put in her first colligate goal for Drexel. Juniors Charlotte Wood and Lindsey Kovar both registered three goals.
The Dragons started a 2-0 run after quick goals by Maiden in the opening minutes of the game. Saint Mary's Anna Turpit scored a free position goal and looked to create momentum for the Gaels. Drexel went on a six-goal run and were up by six, 8-2, at the end of the first half. Drexel held on to the lead for the rest of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson tallied three saves and two groundballs. Freshmen Amanda Santandrea played the entire second half and made a stop for the Dragons. Drexel's Amanda Gregg led the team in caused turnovers.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 30 at 4:00 p.m. against Johns Hopkins at Vidas Field.
