Wilmington, N.C. – Drexel completed a doubleheader sweep of the UNC Wilmington Seahawks with a 6-5 victory in Saturday's nightcap. Paige Collings drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Laura Stagliano and the top of the Drexel lineup worked like a well-oiled machine to rally the Dragons back from a 4-0 deficit. The win gave Head Coach Kim Camara, who is in her fifth season at Drexel and started her career as an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington, 100 career coaching victories.
Shelby Taylor ground out the pitching victory after spotting the Seahawks four runs in the first two innings. From the third inning on, Taylor held the Seahawks to one run on two hits, positioning her team to come back for the win.
Amada Davenport started the game for UNC Wilmington and lasted five innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and four walks. Samme Lisowsky took the loss after she let in the last two Drexel runs of the game on two hits and a walk in two innings of work.
Stagliano reached base in three of her four at-bats, stole two bases and scored two runs as the catalyst for the Dragons' offense.
Allison Lanouette drove in the first Seahawks run with sacrifice fly and Camry Wagner followed with an RBI triple down the right field line.
In the second inning Brianna Lofton and Ashley Shingleton put together back-to-back RBI singles to right field.
Taylor settled down to retire six of the next seven batters and hold the home team off the scoreboard for the next two innings, giving the Dragons a chance to come from behind.
Devon Metcalf sparked a three-run third for the Dragons by drawing a lead-off walk and stealing second base. After a double by Comfort Ahonkhai, Laura Stagliano brought Metcalf home with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Rachel Campbell followed by taking a pitch the opposite way for a single to left field and Paige Collings drew a walk to load the bases. The discerning eye of Kelly Downes helped her draw an RBI walk to push home a run and Taylor singled to center field to drive in another, making it a 4-3 game.
The Dragons briefly tied the game in the top of the fifth inning when Stagliano singled and stole second. Campbell moved her to third with a ground out and Collings brought her in with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Taylor struggled with her control in the bottom of the frame, however, and gave the run back to the Seahawks. Emily Kleekamp scored on a wild pitch after drawing a walk and advancing on a fielder's choice. Taylor would walk three in the inning before escaping with her team trailing by a run.
Katy Harrington came up with a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning. pinch runner Amanda Bachmann came around to score after a bunt by Metcalf and a single to right by Hanna Parrish that was mishandled by the Seahawks' right fielder. Bachmann's run tied the game at 5-5.
Stagliano, once again, was in the middle of producing the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. She drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Campbell moved her to third base on a fly ball. Stagliano sprinted home on a ground out to second base by Collings to put the Dragons on top 6-5.
Taylor held the Seahawks off the board in the bottom of the seventh, but not without drama. Lanouette reached on a single up the middle and Brittany Pierce drew a walk with one out. But Katie Houmard and Daniela Torres flew out to Ahonkhai in left field in successive at bats to end the game.
