Box Score
Wilmington, N.C. - Hillary Allen closed out Drexel's three-game sweep of UNC Wilmington (11-34, 3-9) with a complete-game victory on the rubber and a two-run homer at the plate. Allen allowed just two earned runs and shut out the Seahawks for the final six innings of the game while striking out eight batters. The Dragons improve to 12-21 with the win and 4-8 in CAA play with their first series sweep of the season.
Amanda Aditays took the loss for the Seahawks. She allowed three earned runs, all in the first inning, on five hits. Aditays did not issue a single walk in the game and struck out seven batters.
The top of the Drexel lineup sprung back into action in the series finale to give the Dragons a three-run lead in the first inning. Following the same winning script as they used in Saturday's sweep of the Seahawks, Laura Stagliano got hit by a pitch and stole second. Rachel Campbell followed with an RBI double. Clean-up hitter Hillary Allen took a 2-1 pitch to center field for a two-run homer, her first round tripper in conference play this season.
A pair of doubles by Caitlin Cavarra and Ashley Shingleton, coupled with a Brittany Pierce single scored a pair of runs for the Seahawks in the bottom of the inning, making it a 3-2 game.
From that point, Allen cruised through the next five innings, retiring 13 batters in order until Candice Faircloth reached on a single in the fifth inning. She had to pitch out of a jam in the sixth inning with runners at first and third and two outs. Allen came up with a huge strikeout of Pierce to escape the inning.
Allen slammed the door on the Seahawks in the seventh inning by retiring the side in order with strikeouts of Daniela Torres and Faircloth bookending a fly out by Katie Houmard to seal the Drexel victory.
The Dragons are back at home on Wednesday to face University City rival Penn before heading to George Mason next weekend for a three-game set with the Patriots.
