Philadelphia - The Battle of 34th Street will be renewed once again today at Drexel Softball Field as the Dragons host the Penn Quakers in a 4:00 p.m. game. Drexel (12-21) is coming off a three-game sweep of CAA rival UNC Wilmington on the road last weekend. The Quakers (14-16-1) enter the game on a tear as well after sweeping a four-game set with Princeton last week. Fans can follow the game on Drexel Game Central.
Hillary Allen, the reigning CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week, is doing some of her best work of the season from the pitching circle. Last week she was a perfect 3-0 in three starts, including a complete-game shutout of La Salle aided by a career-high 10 strikeouts. Allen's bat is heating up as well, the junior accounted for two of Drexel's three runs -with a two-run homer- in the team's 3-2 victory over UNC Wilmington in the series finale on Sunday.
Penn is playing some excellent softball lately under eighth-year Head Coach Leslie King. With a squad built around solid pitching an efficient offense, the Quakers have turned in a solid season thus far with a 6-6 record in Ivy League play. Penn heads into a tough weekend of competition at Cornell following the mid-week game at Drexel.
Big Bats: Catcher Alisha Prystowski is one of the city's top softball players once again as she puts the finishing touches on a brilliant career in her senior year at Penn. She is batting .386 on the season and ranks among the Ivy League's top batters in on-base percent (.504) and slugging (.636).
Ace of the Staff: Mikenzie Voves is the anchor of Penn's bullpen this season. After recording a pair of wins over Princeton last week, Voves is now 8-7 on the season. She has thrown 93 innings for the Quakers this season with a 4.12 ERA and 56 strikeouts.
All-Time Series: Drexel leads the all-time series with its University City rival 37-8. The Dragons have swept doubleheaders against the Quakers in each of the last two seasons. Penn's last victory over Drexel came in a doubleheader split in April of 2008.
