Philadelphia – The 18th-ranked Drexel field hockey team faces Columbia on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Buckley Field. The Dragons enter the contest with a 2-0 record after defeating Fairfield, 2-1, on Monday afternoon. Friday's game marks the first meeting between both field hockey squads. Drexel is 6-11 all-time against Ivy League opponents.
The Dragons had a number of new personal bests in the opening weekend of competition. Junior midfielder Amanda Fleischut scored her first career hat trick in the 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's last Friday. Freshmen Meghan Plank and Christina Conrad made a quick impact for Drexel's offense. Plank earned an assist in her first collegiate game against the Hawks, while Conrad's first career goal gave the Dragons a 2-1 lead over Fairfield. Senior goalkeeper Brooke Underwood closed out the weekend tying her career high with five saves against the Stags.
Columbia opens up its 2011 campaign against the Dragons. Last season, the Lions finished with a 10-7 overall record and went 3-4 in conference play. The Lions return 15 letterwinners, including three of their top five leading scorers. Columbia added seven freshmen to its roster.
