Fleischut Leads Drexel Past City Rival Temple, 2-1, on Sunday

Philadelphia – Junior midfielder Amanda Fleischut scored the game-winning goal off of a penalty corner with two minutes remaining in the second half to lead Drexel past Temple, 2-1, at Buckley Field on Sunday afternoon. The Owls fired 15 shots and tallied seven penalty corners, to just six shots and three corners for the Dragons. Drexel improved to 6-2 overall, while Temple dropped to 3-5 on the season. The Drexel women's field hockey team has now won its 16th straight game over a Philadelphia-area school.
Temple's Bridget Settles tested Drexel just 34 seconds after the opening whistle, but senior goalkeeper Kim Chiarelli was able to clear the ball into open space. The Owls dominated play, but neither team was able to put points on the board. At 28:58, Settles broke the scoreless tie and gave Temple the first lead of the game, 1-0. Temple led by one at half.
With seven minutes into the second half, the Owls looked to take the lead, but the officials called back Settles' penalty corner goal. At 11:19, junior standout Amanda Fleischut juked past Temple's defender and pulled the ball around goalkeeper Lizzy Millen to tie the game, 1-1. Fleischut scored the game-winning goal from Ashley Santee and Monica Baick's pass with 2:41 remaining in the contest. The Dragons held onto the lead until time expired.
Senior goalkeeper Kim Chiarelli earned her second career win and made four stops against the Owls. Chiarelli now has 12 saves on the season. Temple's Lizzy Millen had one save.
The Dragons travel to James Madison on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m.
