Norfolk, Va. – The visiting No. 18 Drexel Field Hockey fell to the league's top-ranked team No. 10 Old Dominion, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons held the Monarchs to a scoreless second half, but were unable to overcome an early two-goal deficit. The Dragons drew four corners to Old Dominion's three in the final 35 minutes of play. Drexel is 3-1 in the CAA and 10-4 overall, while the Monarchs improved to 5-0 in conference play.

Kimberly Oakes and Maartje vanRijswijk gave Old Dominion a two-goal cushion in the opening 11 minutes of the game. At 15:01, junior Lindsay McArdle fired the ball into the right side of the cage to bring the score within one-goal, 2-1. In the 21^st minute, sophomore goalkeeper Jantien Gunter turned away an incoming shot. The Monarch's Christy Longacre redirected the rebounded ball off the pads of Gunter to retake a two-goal lead, 3-1.

With 30:15 off the clock, junior Elise DiDonato recorded a goal from senior captain Amanda Fleischut's pass, 3-2. Old Dominion was able to take one more shot before the end of the half as Kimberly Oakes scored off of a penalty corner with zero time on the clock.

Drexel's Gunter blocked six shots in the second half finishing with nine saves in the team's first conference loss of the season. Gunter has made 69 total stops.

The Dragons will face Iowa (9-3) on Friday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the neutral site of Penn State.
