PHILADELPHIA - Former Drexel men's soccer star and Philadelphia-area native Jeff Parke was acquired by the Philadelphia Union last month in a trade with the Seattle Sounders. The Abington, Pa. native is a seven-year veteran of Major League Soccer, and last played for Drexel in 2003.
"It is a dream come true to be able to come home and play in front of my hometown fans and the Union faithful," Parke told PhiladelphiaUnion.com upon his arrival in Philadelphia. "I'm thrilled to join the organization and get started with the next chapter of my career."
A top defender and a two-time All-America East honoree while at Drexel, Parke played the last three seasons for the Seattle Sounders. He has also spent time with the New York Red Bulls (2004-08) and Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL-1 league (2009).
Last season, Parke was the Sounders' Defender of the Year, and led the club to its second-straight Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearance. He played in 30 games, starting 29, and had an assist in a 2-0 victory over Vancouver.
Parke, who was a Soccer Seven All-Star and a Second Team All-Region selection as a junior at Drexel in 2002, had three goals in his collegiate career including two game-winners during that junior campaign. A graduate of Downingtown High, Parke was selected 60th overall by New York in the 2004 SuperDraft.
