
Women's Lacrosse Falls to Towson ,11-10, on Sunday

Philadelphia - Towson's Ashleigh Rohrback scored in the final 29 seconds to defeat the Drexel women's lacrosse team, 11-10, on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons held a 7-3 lead at halftime, but the Tigers' eight goals in the second half was enough to improve their CAA record to 5-0. Towson outshot the Dragons, 21-19, while Drexel won 12 draw controls to the Tigers' 11. The Dragons are now 2-3 in conference play and 9-5 overall.
Sophomore Amanda Norcini led the team with three goals and went 3-4 in free position attempts. She also had three draw control wins. Alyse Maiden had a goal and two assists for three points. Kristin Kopenhaver helped the Dragons' attack with eight draw control wins.
Towson's Ashley Waldron won the opening draw control allowing instant pressure on Drexel's defense. The Tigers caused two Drexel fouls and finished the play with a goal by Andi Raymond. Less than a minute later, Kristen Kopenhaver gained possession off the draw and found Alyse Maiden who drew a Towson foul. At 26:59, Maiden had a successful free position attempt to tie the game, 1-1. The Dragons worked the ball around until Jaclyn Klunder cut into the middle towards the crease and shoot the ball into the goal from Maiden's pass. Charlotte Wood followed with a free position goal to extend Drexel's lead to two, 3-1. Towson's Waldron won the next draw control and carried the ball into Drexen's defensive end, which set up her second goal of the game.
At 17: 44, Klunder fed the ball to Charlotte Wood from behind the cage broadening the lead back to two, 4-2. Towson's Paige Duncan fired a shot, but hit the post allowing Drexel to recover the loose ball. The Dragons cleared down the field and scored a goal by junior Kelli Joran. The Tigers controlled momentum back on the attacking end and earned a man up opportunity after a yellow card called on Drexel. Towson's Kelly Custer scored from teammate Ashleigh Rohrback's pass, 5-3. At 10:31, Klunder tallied another goal from a give-and-go from Maiden. Towson won the draw and earned a free position opportunity, but didn't get a shot off. Drexel regained possession, but quickly turned the ball over. With 29 seconds left in the game, Towson's Ashleigh Rohrback scored the game-winning goal from Andi Raymound's pass.
