Joran Scores Game-Winner Against William and Mary, 11-10, in Overtime

Philadelphia - The Drexel women's lacrosse team defeated William and Mary, 11-10, in overtime on Friday night at Vidas Field. Junior midfielder Kelli Joran tied the game, 10-10, in the final 27 seconds left in regulation before scoring the game-winning goal. Drexel outshot the Tribe, 36-11, while William and Mary won 13 draw controls to the Dragons' 11. The Dragons improved to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Kelli Joran and Charlotte Wood led the attack with three goals each. Wood also tallied an assist. Sophomore Amanda Norcini had a pair of goals, while teammates Jaclyn Klunder, Lindsey Kovar and Alyse Maiden also put points on the board for the Dragons.

With less than a minute into the first half, William and Mary's Kyrstin Mackrides earned a free position goal. At 24:22, Caitlin Murphy extended the Tribes' lead to two, 2-0, off of a pass from Maggie Anderson down low. Alyse Maiden won the following draw and pushed into the attacking end. The Dragons fired two shots, but were turned away by William and Mary's Lucy Ferguson. Charlotte Wood set up Jaclyn Klunder from behind the goal with a quick score for the Dragons. Alyse Maiden picked up a ground ball following a turnover by the Tribe and passed the ball to Amanda Norcini from the top of the eight. Norcini cut into the middle releasing a shot into the goal.

At 16:07, Klunder scored a free position goal to earn the Dragons' first lead of the game, 3-2. William and Mary answered back with two straight goals. At 12:30, Joran evened the score. The Dragons continue to put pressure on the Tribes' defense, but had difficulties getting the ball past Ferguson. With just over five minutes in the half, Charlotte Wood scored an unassisted goal. William and Mary's Taelor Salmon tied the game, 5-5, just before halftime.

The Tribe scored in the opening minutes of the second half, but Alyse Maiden recorded an unassisted goal to even the score again, 6-6. William and Mary went on a four-goal run extending the lead to four, 10-6. At 4:43, Alyse Maiden maintained the ball off the draw control until she found teammate Charlotte Wood for a quick goal starting a four-goal run for the Dragons. Amanda Norcini helped lessen the deficit with a free position goal.

With just under two minutes, Lindsey Kovar added scored an unassisted goal followed by a key goal from Kelli Joran to bring the Dragons into overtime. Joran went on to score the game-winning goal, 11-10.

The Dragons will play their final regular-season game on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Vidas Field on Senior Day. The women's lacrosse team secured the fourth seed in the upcoming 2012 CAA Championships.
