Box Score
Philadelphia - Drexel freshman Lauren Stollar converted a feed over the top of the defense for her first career goal as Drexel shutout UMBC, 1-0. It was the third straight win for the Dragons, who are now 3-1 on the season.
The teams played to a scoreless first half despite the Dragons controlling the majority of play. Drexel took the only six shots of the game and had two on goal, but did not score. Drexel turned up the offensive pressure in the second half and kept the ball in the offensive end for almost the entire half. The Dragons finally got on the board after earning a corner kick. Courtney Wylie had the corner and fed it into the box. A UMBC (0-3-1) defender tried to clear and appeared to do so. However, Drexel senior tri-captain Jourdan Halasz got control and lofted a nice ball over the top of the Retrievers' defense. The pass went right on the mark to Stoller, who broke in alone on the right side and fired a shot into the low far corner to break the tie.
Drexel appeared to go up by a pair of goals late in the game, when Jess Sarkisian made a nifty move around the defense to set up freshman Jacki Sieder. Sieder appeared to get her first collegiate goal, but it was called back for an offside violation.
Drexel outshot UMBC, 21-2, as the Retrievers were only able to get one shot on goal. That shot was saved by Eve Badana, who picked up her second shutout in four matches this season. Lauren Kadet kept the game close, making nine saves in the cage for UMBC.
The Dragons are off until Friday when they begin their two-match trip to Hawaii. Drexel opens with a match against the University of Hawaii on Friday night and will also play Hawaii-Hilo on the trip.
