Women's Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight at Saint Joseph's, 8-6

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight game with an 8-6 victory over Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon at Finnesey Field. The win also marked the teams' fourth consecutive win over a Philadelphia-area school. Sophomore Joelle Hartke's back-to-back goals helped Drexel break a late 6-6 tie. The Dragons held an 18-13 advantage in shots, and won 10 draw controls to the Hawk's six. The squad is now 4-0 overall and 3-0 on the road.
After 15 minutes of play, Drexel had a two-goal lead against Saint Joseph's, until, the Hawk's Julia Falcone evened the score, 2-2. With 7:15 remaining in the first, Kelli Joran gave the Dragons a 3-2 advantage from Alyse Maiden's pass. At 2:06, Saint Joseph's Meghan McDevitt came from behind the goal and placed the ball into the opposite corner to tie the game, 3-3, leading into halftime. The Hawks outshot Drexel, 9-7, and won four draw controls to the Dragons' three.
In the opening seven minutes of the second half, Joran received a pass from Rudloff and found the back of the cage moving the Dragons ahead by one, 4-3. With 19:59 remaining, the Hawks' Abby Ananian scored an unassisted goal. Norcini answered back scored with a goal assisted by Joran. Less than a minute later, Joran scored an unassisted goal to extend the Dragons' lead to two. Saint Joseph's Julia Falcone posted two more points, which brought the game to its fourth tie of the day, 6-6.
At 5:27, Kopenhaver had a free-position attempt, but didn't take the initial shot. Instead, she passed the ball to Joelle Hartke, who sent the ball into the upper netting of the cage. With just under two minutes remaining, Hartke tallied a successful free-position attempt to give the Dragons a two-goal lead, 8-6. The Dragons were able to swing the ball around the field until the game clock ran down to zero.
Joran scored her fourth hat trick of the year leading the team with three goals and four points. She now has 12 goals and 17 points. Hartke recorded a pair of goals and draw controls for a new career-high. Rudloff, Kopenhaver and Norcini also scored for the Dragons. Rudloff posted a career-high with two assists in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Teresha Bradley made three saves combining for 21 on the season.
Drexel will return to action on Wednesday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. as the Dragons host Villanova at Vidas Field.
