Swimming and Diving Sets Multiple Records at Pitt Invite

Day 3 Recap
PITTSBURGH – The final day of competition saw the Drexel swimming and diving set another freshman record and post numerous new season-best times.
"It was a great weekend to be a Dragon swimmer and diver with many season and lifetime bests", said Adam Braun. "This weekend has been circled on our calendar since Day 1, and now that it is over our attention turns to the eight going to US Nationals in two weeks and CAA Championships in February."
Miranda Rouse set her fourth freshman record with her 17:39.05 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Rouse came home in seventh overall, behind one other freshman, two juniors and three seniors.
Kyle Lukens swept the weekend's butterfly events with his win in the 200-yard on Sunday night (1:47.61). The time is now the second fastest time in school history for the Plymouth Meeting native.
In the men's 1,650 freestyle Zoltan Gercsak finished sixth with a 15:46.68 and Ted Taylor was right behind in seventh 3.82 seconds back. J.T. Lumpkin set a new season-best in the 200-yard backstroke by 5.98 seconds with a 1:52.07. The time got Lumpkin a fourth place finish. Fellow Dragon, Liam McLaughlin finished eighth.
Rachel Bernhardt set a new season-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke en route to a fifth place finish with a 2:20.41. Joel Berryman posted a new season-best in the 100-yard freestyle with a 46.22 while finishing 11th.
Gillian Gress recorded her fifth straight top-eight finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:11.10. Aubrey Murray was the first women to crack the 52s in the 100-yard freestyle with her 52.45.
Chad Schmidt posted the fastest time this season in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:04.97, en route to a sixth place finish. Andrew Reimon was seventh with a 2:05.60.
Bernhardt, Brianna Bentz, Katie Duggan and Murray were sixth in 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:35.03. The team of Luckens, Berryman, Mike Shaeffer and Alex Chialastri in 400-yard freestyle relay was fifth with a 3:04.36.
The Dragons now turn their attention to USA Nationals on December 4-6 in Greensboro, N.C. Duggan, Bernhardt, Berryman, Chialastri, Lukens, Quagliariello, Reimon and Krohn will compete for Drexel. That will be the last event for the Dragons before the calendar turns to 2015.

PITTSBURGH – The second day of the Pittsburgh invite was just as successful as the first one for the Dragons. The Dragons set another school record and another freshman record plus more top-five finishes.
Miranda Rouse broke the school record in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.96. Rouse breaks the record of Lauren Faykes that was set in 2013, 4:31.49. Rouse's record time was enough to finish third overall. Rouse also broke the freshman record in the process. Emily Joyce's time of 4:41.34 also broke the previous freshman record record. The two times are the third and fourth fastest times in school history.
Kyle Lukens won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.23. The time is a season-best for the junior and is the second fastest time in program history. Joel Berryman won the 100-yard backstroke with a new season-best time of 49.21. Ted Taylor recorded a top-five in the 200-yard freestyle with a fifth place finish. Taylor's time of 1:40.49 is a new season-best by just under three seconds.
Katie Duggan recorded a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a new season-best time of 56.81. That time is almost three seconds faster than the previous mark for this season and is the fourth fastest time in school history. Duggan was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team along with Rachel Bernhardt, Brianna Bentz and Claudia Duguay, that finished third.
Bernhardt set a new season-best in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:03.00. The time got the sophomore a third place finish. Aubrey Murray finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:51.72, which is another season-best.
David Sanchez qualified eighth in the 1-meter dive finals then moved up to finish second with a score of 321.30. It is the first time this season that Sanchez has cracked the 300-point plateau.
The Dragons close-out the Pittsburgh Invite tomorrow with action starting at 9 a.m. at Joe C. Trees Pool.

Freshmen Emily Joyce and Miranda Rouse both broke the freshman record in the 500-yard freestyle. Rouse (5:00.45) and Joyce (5:03.27) set the new records in the prelims. The two finished sixth and seventh in the finals. Rouse continued her great afternoon by setting the 200-yard IM freshman record in the prelims with a time of 2:09.26. Rouse finished eighth in the finals with a 2:10.48, which her second fastest time of the season.
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brianna Bentz, Katie Duggan, Claudia Duguay and Rachel Bernhardt finished third with a season-best time of 1:35.02. In the men's race the Dragons took fourth with a team of Kyle Lukens, Alex Chialastri, Mike Shaeffer and Joel Berryman. Their 1:21.22 is a season-best time as well.
Both of the 400-yard medley relays finished in the top-four. The women's 3:52.64 and the men's 3:20.35 are both season-bests.
