CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to College of Charleston, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons had a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the Cougars were able to come back with two second half goals to earn the victory.
Drexel's lone goal came from rookie Vanessa Kara who scored in the 15th minute to mark her seventh goal on the year. Kara's shot hit the left post and then rolled into the net to give the Dragons a 1-0 advantage early on. Drexel would maintain this one-goal lead into halftime.
The Cougars were able to even the score eight minutes into the second half as Laura Ortega set up Raymara Barreto for a successful shot that came from the left side of the box. Just seven minutes after that, freshman Jessica Schifer put College of Charleston ahead as she dodged Drexel keeper Eve Badana on a breakaway off a long pass from Sara Deutsch at midfield. The Cougars would maintain their advantage through the rest of regulation despite a strong effort from the Drexel offense, who was able to get off six shots in the remaining time but to no avail.
Badana recorded three saves in the losing effort. College of Charleston's Lauren Killian stopped four shots on goal on the way to the Cougars' second conference win.
The loss moves the Dragons to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Cougars improve to 8-3, 2-0 CAA.
Next up, the Dragons return home on Friday, Oct. 2 as they host Towson at Vidas Field at 7 p.m.
