BALTIMORE – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team emerged victorious in the two-day, Loyola-hosted Thomas Murphy Invitational on Saturday afternoon as the women defeated the Greyhounds, 249-121, and the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 253-111.
Saturday was highlighted by two pool records at Loyola's Mangione Pool and a sweep of the 1650-yard freestyle. On day two of the meet, Drexel turned in 13 first-place victories, four second-place finishes and three-third place marks.
Senior standout Rachel Bernhardt broke Loyola's pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 1:01.67. The mark was previously set in 2003 by Olympian Katie Hoff at 1:02.26. Individually, Bernhardt also won the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday (2:18.35).
The Drexel women of freshman Alexa Kutch, Bernhardt, sophomore April Forsthoffer and sophomore Emily Kosten also took down the pool record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.36. It comes as the third pool record this season in three meets for this grouping in the medley relay this year.
Kosten won both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles with times of 51.37 and 1:54.24. Her 100-yard freestyle time is now fourth all-time at Drexel.
Kutch placed first in the 100-yard back at 57.85.
Forsthoffer won the 400-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 4:36.63. The sophomore also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:08.60.
Drexel took the top-three spots in the 1650-yard freestyle behind sophomore Niki Fistrovic (17:54.47), freshman Dora Gercsak (18:09.84) and junior Emily Joyce (18:11.22).
Sophomore Charlotte Myers took first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly with times of 57.83 and 2:07.89.
For the second-straight day, senior Madison Kramer finished with a top score in the 3-meter board at 258.15; fellow senior Jaclyn Goulet placed third at 202.64.
Drexel also won two more relays on the afternoon. The quartet of Kosten, Bernhardt, senior Claudia Duguay and senior Aubrey Murray took first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:36.19.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Duguay, Murray, Bernhardt and Kosten placed first with a time of 3:31.25.
Murray would also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.07) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.85).
Freshman Alicia Diaz turned in a second-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke at 58.68.

BALTIMORE – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team lead both the Loyola Greyhounds, 75-35, and the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 76-31, after day one at the Thomas Murphy Invitational on Loyola's campus in Baltimore.
Day one on Friday night was highlighted by the women's sweep of the 50-yard freestyle. So far, the Dragons have five first-place victories, one second-place mark and three third-place finishes in the opening five swim events and the 1-meter board.
In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Emily Kosten (23.71), senior Rachel Bernhardt (24.18) and senior Claudia Duguay (24.51) finished in the top-three spots for the Drexel sweep in the event.
Kosten was also part of the Drexel 800-freestyle relay (7:46.45) win along with junior Emily Joyce, sophomore April Forsthoffer and senior Aubrey Murray.
Joyce finished third individually in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:13.10.
Forsthoffer grabbed a victory in the 200-yard individual medley behind a time of 2:10.76.
Forsthoffer was also part of the Dragons' other relay win in the 400 medley (3:52.78) as she swam third in the group of freshman Alexa Kutch, Bernhardt and Duguay.
Senior Madison Kramer earned first in the 1-meter board with a score of 257.71. Fellow senior Jaclyn Goulet placed third at 213.75.
The Dragons return to the pool tomorrow, Saturday, October 29 at 10 a.m. for day two of the Loyola-hosted invitational.
