Softball Set to Visit Hofstra for Weekend Series

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team will hit the road this weekend as they visit Hofstra for a weekend conference series. The Dragons and Pride are set to square off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. Then they will close out the series with a single game on Sunday that is slated to begin at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
The Dragons (17-26, 0-11 CAA) earned a 5-4 victory over Seton Hall in eight innings on Thursday afternoon. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Dragons. Paula Ueno went 2-for-2 from the plate with a home run and two runs batted in. Kimberly Chan and Sharon Zamora also added 2-for-3 performances on the outing.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Hofstra goes into this weekend's competition with a 21-18 overall record and is 5-6 in CAA action thus far on the year. Last time out, the Pride was edged by Stony Brook, 8-7 in a midweek non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon. Last weekend Hofstra visited Delaware, who took two of three games from the Pride in the weekend series. Hofstra's only victory of the weekend came in game two on Saturday, as they overcame the Blue Hens with a 6-5 win. Michaela Transue holds the Pride's best batting average (.361) and totals 39 hits including seven doubles, two triples, and seven home runs on the year. Kim Smith leads the squad in hits with 42, RBIs with 35, and ties for team-leader with eight homers on the season.
STAT LEADERS
Ueno leads the Dragons with a .415 average from the plate in 135 at-bats. She has 56 hits including 10 doubles, a triple and two home run on the season and has knocked in a team-leading 29 RBI. Going into this week's competition, Ueno's batting average was good for third in the CAA and her season hit total tied for second in the conference. From the mound, Tara Konopka leads the Dragons with eight wins, while Taylor L. Lee adds five and Katie Haley tallies four of her own.

WHAT'S NEXT
Next week, the Dragons will host UMES and Wagner for midweek doubleheaders on Tuesday and Thursday respectively before they prepare to host UNCW at Drexel Field over the weekend for the final conference series of the season.
