Philadelphia, Pa. – The 1970's Drexel Lacrosse All-Decade Team was announced on Tuesday. Each decade team was selected by the Drexel University Men's Lacrosse Committee.
The 1970's All-Decade team features Lynn Ferguson, Charles Frederick, Walter "Sonny" Bajkowski, Brian Cullinan, John Kohli, Greg McClure, Paul Rahn, Robert Hill, H.C. Gulbrandsen, James Hart, Robert Montgomery, Donald Gay, Bob Ambler, Ira Peezick, James Bickley, Jeff Miller, Stephen Quigley, Paul Lamparski, James Ronon, Dennis Fink, Dennis Murray, William Houghton, Ron Forster, Joseph Mailey, Robert Paradis and Bob Hoover.
The 1970s were one of the strongest decades in Drexel history. The Dragons played the early part of the decade under Tom Hayes. His teams had a 39-21 record from 1970-1974 and had four straight winning seasons. The 1978 team won 11 games, a record that stood at the institution for 26 years. Randy Voigt took over in 1975 and his teams won eight or more games in four of the next five years to close out the decade. It was during the 1970s that the Dragons produced some of their all-time leading scorers. Eight of the top 11 players on Drexel's career scoring played during the 1970s, including the all-time leader in goals (Jeff Miller), assists (Dennis Fink) and points (Bob Ambler).
The All-Decade teams are part of a celebration that will take place throughout the year. The 75th anniversary festivities will culminate in Drexel's final regular-season home game against Delaware on Saturday, April 22 at 3 p.m. The Dragons will wear throwback jerseys during the season-finale. The 75th anniversary team will be honored during halftime of the contest against the Blue Hens. The All-Decade teams will be recognized at the postgame reception.
A celebratory reception and dinner for the 75th anniversary will follow the conclusion of the game at the Vidas Athletic Complex from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Drexel Lacrosse letterwinners plus one guest will receive free admission to the game and reception. The cost of the game and reception for all other guests will be $40 and $5 for children 12 and under. To RSVP, please click here.
