ALBANY, N.Y. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team fell at Albany on Sunday afternoon, 20-7. After the Dragons scored two early goals to take a 2-1 lead, the Great Danes scored six in a row and never looked back.
Devin Nihill put together her fourth hat trick of the season in the loss. She and Nadia Pelham-Lacey, who had three assists, each put together four-point outings. Lisa Rogers, Lauren Gerrie and Alex Beilman each scored goals in the loss for the Dragons, while Sarah Martin had nine points on four goals and five assists in the win for Albany.
Nihill and Rogers scored consecutive goals within 90 seconds of each other early in the first half to give the Dragons a brief 2-1 lead, but the Danes had the lead back by the 21:09 mark and did not look back. Albany scored six in a row before Beilman broke Drexel's drought with 9:46 remaining in the first half. Pelham-Lacey pulled Drexel back within three when she scored with 2:26 to play before intermission, but the Great Danes got a late goal to take an 8-4 lead into the break.
The push by Albany continued after halftime, as the Great Danes scored eight of the first nine goals in the second half. Nihill netted a pair midway through the second half to make it a 16-7 game, but Albany closed things out with four straight goals.
Sunday was the first time this season that Drexel, which came in as one of the top defensive units in the nation, gave up more than nine goals to an opponent.
The Dragons will now return home to Vidas Field for four consecutive games. That homestand begins next Sunday when the Dragons host High Point at noon.
