HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team dropped two games to Hofstra in CAA action on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons dropped the first game, 9-0, before falling in the nightcap, 11-2.
In game one, Hofstra took the early lead with a home run out of left field in the first inning. The next two innings were scoreless before the Pride added two more runs in the fourth to extend its lead 4-0 using two homers.
Hofstra then broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning to run-rule the Dragons and finish the game with a 9-0 victory. The runs came from a RBI single and two more home runs off the bats of Wert and Michalowski.
Katie Haley suffered the loss as she allowed six runs and seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.
The Pride went ahead again early in game two, this time finishing the first inning with a 2-0 advantage. It then went on to score one more in the second and six more in the third to jump out to a 9-0 lead. The Pride got things started in the third with a RBI double before a single and a three-run double drove in the final runs of the inning.
Despite the deficit, the Dragon's did not quit as they added one run in the fourth and fifth inning. Jenelle Ladrido hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Emma Dryden and Hannah Walker hit a single to plate Holly Bridgman. The Dragons, however, were unable to recover and would fall to the Pride, 11-2, after five innings of play.
Brooklyn Daly suffered the loss in the circle as she allowed 11 hits and 11 runs in 4.0 innings pitched.
The Dragons will regroup and return to action when they close out the series with Hofstra on Sunday, April 22 at 12 p.m.
