Softball Falls to Elon, DiMeo Breaks Program Record for Single-Season Home Runs

After dropping two to Elon yesterday, Drexel came out looking for revenge as it jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game three. DiMeo got things started with a three-run homer out of left center before a Reilly Jo Swanson single drove in Elena Woulfe for one more.
Elon began to chip away in the bottom of the inning and cut the deficit down to one with a three-run homer of its own off the bat of Ashtyn Foddrell.
Linda Rush doubled in the second to drive in Kent and pad the Dragons lead, 5-3, but Elon got four back for a two run advantage heading into the third. The host's runs would come from a pair of doubles, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly out to left field.
Ahead 7-5, Elon used the third and fourth innings to break the game open and take over. The Phoenix added a run in the third before using another three-run homer out of left center from Katrina Martin to jump out to a 11-5 advantage.
The Dragons tacked on two in the fifth using a Kent single and a wild pitch to plate Emma Dryden and Swanson. The Phoenix, however, extended its lead with three more in the bottom of the frame.
Drexel had one final attempt as Hannah Walker hit a three-run double to left field to cut the deficit down to four, but Elon fought right back with three more to secure the 17-10 victory.
Kent went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double and a RBI. Walker, Rush and Megan Trivelpiece each went 2-for-4 on the day. Devon Grippe suffered the loss in the circle as she allowed 11 runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.
The Dragons will return to action on Wednesday, May 2 when they host Saint Joseph's for a single game beginning at 4 p.m.
