FAIRFAX, Va. – The offensive explosion to start the 2018 season has continued for the Drexel men's soccer team, who moved to 3-0-0 with a 3-0 victory at George Mason on Friday night. The Dragons took control early and never looked back, with three different players netting goals and freshman goalkeeper Stephen Kopsachilis putting together his first shutout.

Drexel got on the board just over 12 minutes into the action when Kwesi Allen found Chris Donovan in close. The freshman fired to the left of George Mason goalkeeper Corey Chambers, netting his first collegiate goal.

In the 22nd minute, the Dragons made it a two-goal lead. Mathias Ebbesen, who has registered a point in all three games, took control on a breakaway. As he entered the box with just Chambers to beat, Ebbesen roped a shot that once again beat the Mason keeper to his left, giving the Drexel senior his second of the year.

The Dragons added a third tally midway through the second half, when another young standout scored his first collegiate goal. This time, it was sophomore Patrick Murphy who benefited from crisp passes by Donovan and Joey Martini that set him up from 10 yards out. Murphy deposited his shot into the lower right corner of the net for the 3-0 lead.

Despite their dominance on the scoreboard, Drexel was actually outshot on the evening by a substantial margin, 19-8. George Mason outdid the Dragons 8-5 in shots on goal, but Stephen Kopsachilis put together his first shutout in the Blue and Gold with eight saves in his second start.

The Dragons' resurgence has led to eight goals in the team's first three games this season, equaling their total from the 2017 campaign. Drexel will go for a fourth consecutive win to start its year on Monday evening at Penn in the annual University City Derby. A victory would equal the team's best start in nine years under head coach Doug Hess. That game kicks off at 7 p.m.
