PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team notched a victory in its first Philadelphia Soccer Six matchup of the season as the Dragons topped Saint Joseph's on Hawk Hill, 3-0. Drexel's first two goals were both collegiate firsts for Joey Martini and Harrison Coron and Laolu Daranijo added a capper late in the second half to provide the final margin.
Stephen Koposachilis came up with five saves for his first win and shutout of the season. Francisco Rodrigues da Palma and Anthony Amore each recorded a pair of assists in the victory, while Philip Burckhardt added one.
Martini got the Dragons on the board just 10:44 into the action. Amore and da Palma worked the ball into and through the box to Martini, getting Saint Joseph's keeper Joseph Boehm off balance and out of position as Martini made him pay with the quick strike.
The 1-0 lead held up until early in the second half, when Amore and da Palma again connected on a quick passing combination to feed an open Coron. Daranijo capped things with his second of the season in the 80th minute, finishing a Burckhardt feed to make it a 3-0 game.
Drexel's shutout leaves them 1-0 in the Philadelphia Soccer Six with a matchup against Penn still to come next Tuesday. With a win there, the Dragons will clinch at least a share of their second consecutive Soccer Six crown.
Before that, though, the Dragons return to action on Saturday at Vidas Field as they take on the College of Charleston in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
