MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. – Drexel softball nearly had Butler beat until the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 victory in the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational on Sunday morning.
The game was scoreless until the Dragons took the lead in the seventh frame. Drexel's runs came from a Reilly Jo Swanson single up the middle that drove in Taylor Kent and Sarah Clinton for a two-run lead. Northeastern, however, answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the final victory, 3-2. Jenna Foreman advanced on a wild pitch before a Sammy Andersen double and finally, a Drexel fielding error, gave the Bulldogs the win.
Haley Hulitt suffered the loss in the circle after allowing three runs and three hits in 1.0 innings pitched.
The Dragons will return to the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational on Friday, Feb. 22 when they take on Detroit and Siena in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
