Softball Drops Contest to Detroit Mercy, 1-0

MADEIRA BEACH, FLA. – Drexel softball fell to Detroit Mercy in a close 1-0 game on Friday evening in the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational.
The first three innings were scoreless until the fourth inning when the Titans sent home a run to secure their 1-0 victory. Cou Gilbert got the Titans on the board with a double to left center to send home Jorda Manno. This was the only run Detroit Mercy needed as neither team scored a run throughout the remainder of the game.
Drexel had one last opportunity in the seventh inning when Elena Woulfe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With Woulfe, Taylor Kent and Jenelle Ladrido on base, Drexel's leading home run scorers were next in the lineup. Linda Rush and Kristi DiMeo, however, could not make the play as the Titans walked off with the final victory.
Devon Grippe suffered the loss for Drexel as she allowed four hits and one run in all seven innings of work.
Drexel will continue action in the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational tonight against Siena.
