Softball Edges Colgate, 4-3, to Wrap Up the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational

MADEIRA BEACH, FLA – Drexel softball earned its third win in a row against Colgate to close out the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational on Sunday morning, 5-3.
The first two innings were scoreless until Kristi DiMeo set the tone, smacking a home run out of right center to give the Dragons a 2-0 advantage. Hannah Walker and Jenelle Ladrido followed her lead, each hitting RBI singles to give Drexel a 4-0 edge at the end of the frame.
Colgate retailed right away with an RBI single off the bat of Rounsavill and continued to chip away with two home runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit down to one.
Drexel, however, padded their lead with a Reilly Jo Swanson single to plate Linda Rush and secure the Dragon's 5-3 victory as neither team scored in the seventh.
Brooklyn Daly picked up another win in the circle as she only allowed two hits and one run while striking out three in four innings of work.
The Dragons will return to action when they compete in the Hampton Blue and White Classic on March 8-10. The tournament will include competition against Albany, Norfolk State, Hampton and South Carolina State.
